Kristin Sheldon is a very proud descendant of the Awabakal peoples, raised and living on Wonnarua Country while working on Awabakal Country. Belonging to a large family, Kristin has used this experience to raise her own children and thrive in the early education sector.
In 2011, she joined the team at Speaking in Colour to focus on imbedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into play spaces, classrooms, government policy, boardrooms, and workplaces in a greater capacity. Kristin is currently completing her degree in Early and Primary Education due for completion in the near future.
Kristin has been in the early education space for over 17 years, applying this experience to programs, education kits, and teacher professional learning developed and facilitated at Speaking in Colour. She has built strong relationships locally within all stages of education, from early education to tertiary institutions, working to further support culturally strong and proud children and students, and develop culturally responsive teachers and educators.
Kristin has enjoyed many experiences that Speaking in Colour have offered including delivering a keynote presentation at the Ambrose OOSH professional learning conference, panel discussions for Reconciliation Week, participating in the DoE Needs Analysis process and creating relationship with rural and remote mob, leading the Speaking in Colour Resurgence exhibition which was acknowledged with the Indigenous Curator of the Year for 2023, creating content to support educators in developing their Cultural confidence and responsiveness, attending numerous national and international Indigenous peoples forums and conferences, and continuing to develop and add to her own professional and Indigenous knowledge.
